Gifted and Talented Program Overview
East Fort Worth Montessori Academy recognizes gifted and talented students as those who perform or show potential for performing at a significantly high level of accomplishment compared to peers. Our goal is to foster an environment that aligns with their intellectual abilities or specific academic fields, promoting lifelong learning and productive citizenship.
Montessori Support for Giftedness
Our Montessori approach provides an ideal environment for gifted students, offering individualized learning opportunities that encourage natural curiosity and a passion for learning. Through purposeful activities and guided by trained professionals, students develop self-discipline and the ability to progress at their own pace within a structured order, tailored to their capabilities.
Assessment and Eligibility
Eligibility for the G/T program requires qualification in 3 or 4 specific criteria, reviewed by a trained Screening Committee. Nominations are accepted year-round from teachers, peers, and parents, leading to a comprehensive assessment process utilizing multiple, balanced measures to ensure fair and inclusive screening.
Selection and Notification
Placement decisions are made by a campus selection committee, with parents notified of the outcomes. For new students or those transferring, assessments are conducted to determine G/T program eligibility, respecting previous placements while maintaining the right to conduct our assessments.
Program Model
Our G/T program spans kindergarten through 5th grade, incorporating an inclusion model where students engage in differentiated projects and assignments to meet their unique needs. This approach emphasizes problem-solving, critical thinking, and advanced subject matter through collaborative efforts between the G/T coordinator and classroom teachers.
Curriculum and Instruction
We offer challenging and enriching experiences across core subjects and the arts, tailored to each student's strengths. This includes acceleration opportunities, out-of-school experiences, and instruction focusing on higher-level thinking and creativity.
Instructional Strategies
Strategies include acceleration, ability grouping, curriculum compacting, differentiation, and guided independent study, all designed to cater to the diverse needs and capabilities of gifted students.
Parent Engagement
We actively involve parents by providing information on gifted characteristics, the program's specifics, and how they can support their child's development at home and in school.
Staff Development
Ongoing training for administrators and teachers is a priority, utilizing resources from educational service centers, universities, and the Texas Education Agency to ensure high-quality support for gifted students.
Program Evaluation
Annual evaluations of the Gifted/Talented Program are conducted to enhance its effectiveness, ensuring it continually meets the evolving needs of gifted students.
